    2017 is the year of what’s justly dubbed “the Great American Eclipse,” with the total solar eclipse of Aug. 21 swooping across the contiguous 48 states. The last time a complete sun power failure darkened any part of the mainland United States was in 1979 and the next will be in 2024.
